Frequently Asked Questions

What is Yoga, and what can it do for me?

Yoga means the union of mind, body and spirit. It has been around for over five thousand years. You can see aspects of yoga everywhere, from physical therapy stretches to martial arts. Yoga creates a quiet, peaceful mind, and healthy, strong, flexible body, which improves overall state of well being. By focusing on our breath, and learning to work with our whole body, we clear the mind of other distractions, reducing stress, increasing patience and bringing us to a peaceful state. Yoga postures work to deepen flexibility and strength while releasing tension and improving circulation.

What level should I start at?

If you have never done yoga, then start with a beginners class. If you would like a bit more of a challenge, try the all levels class. Yoga will work the body in ways it has never been worked before. Be gentle and start slowly. If you have been practicing for a while, try a moderate class. Feel free to e-mail us if you are having difficulties choosing an appropriate level.

Do I have to chant or do anything I am uncomfortable with?

No. The whole purpose is to make you feel more comfortable in your body, so don’t feel you have to do anything you don’t want to do. Yoga is not a religion or a cult, just a way to keep the mind and body happy and healthy. If you don’t understand something please do not hesitate to ask questions.

What do I wear/bring to yoga?

Wear comfortable clothing and bring a towel, water bottle and mat. There are yoga mats for sale at the Studio or you can borrow one of ours. Please bring an empty stomach. If you must eat before yoga try fresh fruit or veggies as a snack.

What does "Om" mean?

Om is an ancient, universal sound known as the original sound from which all creation emerged. To chant the sound of Om relaxes body and mind creating a sense of peace and harmony with oneself.
